SIM 6: Building Resilience
You are leading a Faculty/Staff meeting to share a new learning strategy you would like the teachers to implement during the new Reading unit students are ready to begin. This is a regularly scheduled meeting, and you have set the pattern of creating learning opportunities - not merely reading off a list of items that could have been communicated through email.
Despite your deliberate attention to ongoing learning, during the Faculty Meeting, you notice that three teachers are off task, working on their computer, using their phones, and talking to one another. They are not disrupting the meeting but it is apparent, at least to you, that they are not paying attention. You continue with your agenda, but all the while your frustration is growing. You have given them time to turn from the distraction and join the group, but they never do.
